in office on July 9, 1850, Millard Fillmore became the second Vice President in US history to inherit the presidency. He came into office at a crucial point in the slavery debate. |
Fillmore married his school teacher, Abigail Powers. Since his family was pour it was hard to get a good education. Abigail Powers helped him a lot and encouraged him to read. Fillmore always had a book in his hands and read a lot. They married in 1826. Fillmore lasted one term as president. At his successor's inauguration, Abigail became ill with pneumonia, due to cold weather and died a later on.
